I recently ordered new business cards, and am pleased with the way they turned out. I was looking for a way to make my cards stand out when I found Moo.com.
Moo is a printing company that has developed a unique printing process that allows you to print different images on each of your business cards. (The actual statistic is 99 different images per order of 100 cards – so I guess they’re one off – but who’s counting?) I was thrilled when I found them and was amazed that I would be able to put different images on each of my cards. I had found a way to make my cards unique!
Designing My Photography Business Cards
Moo.com makes it really easy to design and upload your cards. They have a great online design tool, but I’m a bit of a control freak, so I designed my cards using Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop. Moo.com provides downloadable templates for both Photoshop and Illustrator. I kept my design simple; on the information side I placed my logo, phone number, email address and website.
INFORMATION SIDE:
Because Moo allows you to print as many different pictures on your cards as you want, I was able to pick 30 of my favorite images and use them on the image side of my card.
IMAGE SIDE:
Uploading the design to Moo.com was easy. They even automatically optimize your images for you (Note: If you’re a control freak like me, you can turn the optimization off if you are using a calibrated monitor). I was able to upload my design quickly and easily. I did not run into any problems with the online interface, it was very user-friendly.
Why I Chose MiniCards Instead of Business Cards
Moo.com offers several different print products including business cards, minicards, postcards and more. MiniCards are unique to Moo.com as far as I know. They are approximately the size of a business card cut in half the long way. I was originally going to order business cards, but after experimenting with the minicard template, I decided that my design looked better on the minicards because it is so long.
The minicards are less expensive than Moo.com’s traditional business cards. They also tend to draw a lot of attention, because or their unique size.
Ordering My Moo MiniCards For My Photography Business
The ordering process on Moo.com’s website is pretty straight forward. Once you upload your design you can save the project, or you can proceed straight to the check out.
The typical printing process at Moo takes about 5-7 days, but they do provide an option to “rush” your order. I chose the rush option because I was so excited to start handing out my new cards. I was very impressed with their speed, they had my cards printed within two days of my order. Within a week I had my cards in hand, and began handing them out to clients, colleagues and friends.
How I Feel About My New Moo MiniCards
I am very pleased with my Moo MiniCards. The card-stock is heavy and feels very sturdy. The card just feels official. The card itself is not overly glossy, but it still has a little bit of a sheen, which I like. The printing quality is the weakest part of the card. Don’t get me wrong, it is perfectly adequate, it is just not equal to the quality of a photographic print.
I would recommend Moo to anyone who is looking for high quality cards that utilize thick card-stock and allow you to print multiple versions of your business card. They make a good, solid product. I rate Moo MiniCards 4.5 out of 5 stars.
